چکیده

This paper examines the seismic behaviour of steel Multi-Tiered Concentrically Braced Frames (MT-CBFs) Conventional Construction category (Type CC) in moderate regions eastern Canada and proposes a new design method for such structures. A total 32 prototype MT-CBFs part single-storey building are selected designed accordance with 2019 Canadian standard (CSA S16-19) provisions Type CC structures, excluding requirements prescribed frames taller than 15m, namely amplification forces varying by frame height column factored force. Nonlinear response history analyses then performed to examine their response. The results confirmed that tiers experience limited lateral deformation, intermediate horizontal struts required between tiers, columns subjected combined axial force bi-axial bending, which some cases led buckling. used propose framework CSA S16.

Concentrically Braced Frames: European vs. North American Seismic Design Provisions

A critical review of seismic design provisions for concentrically braced frames (CBFs) in both European and North American (i.e. US and Canadian) codes is presented in this paper. Indeed, even though those codes are based on capacity design philosophy, different requirements and different approaches are used to guarantee the hierarchy of resistances between dissipative and non-dissipative eleme...

The Effect of Frame Geometry on the Seismic Response of Self-Centering Concentrically- Braced Frames

Conventional concentrically-braced frame (CBF) systems have limited drift capacity before brace buckling and related damage leads to deterioration in strength and stiffness. Self-centering concentrically-braced frame (SC-CBF) systems have been developed to increase drift capacity prior to initiation of damage and minimize residual drift. SC-CBFs differ from conventional CBFs in that the SC-CBF ...

A simplified model for seismic response prediction of concentrically braced frames

This paper proposes a simplified analytical model for seismic response prediction of concentrically braced frames. In the proposed approach, a multistory frame model is reduced to an equivalent shear-building one by performing a static pushover analysis. The conventional shear-building model has been improved by introducing supplementary springs to account for flexural displacements in addition...

SEISMIC RELIABILITY ASSESSMENT OF OPTIMALLY DESIGNED STEEL CONCENTIRCALLY BRACED FRAMES

The main aim of this study, is to evaluate the seismic reliability of steel concentrically braced frame (SCBF) structures optimally designed in the context of performance-based design. The Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method and neural network (NN) techniques were utilized to conduct the reliability analysis of the optimally designed SCBFs. Multi-layer perceptron (MLP) trained by back propagati...

Evaluating Response Modification Factors of Concentrically Braced and Special Moment Steel Frames in Duplex Buildings

Response modification factor (R-factor) is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake. Relying on this, many seismic design codes led to reduce earthquake loads imposed to the structure. The present paper tries to evaluate the R-factors of conventional concentric braced frames (CBFs) and special moment frames (MRFs) in ...
